Deluge

Deluge sprinkler systems are used on fast growing and spreading fires. The sprinkler heads on a deluge system are without thermal actuators (open) so water admitted into the sprinkler piping is discharged through all of the heads simultaneously. The result is a high density of water over an entire area. The water discharge is initiated by a releasing panel connected to smoke, heat or flame detectors. Typical uses of theses systems include airplane hangars, fuel loading racks, conveyor belts and flammable liquid storage rooms. Deluge systems can also be used in conjunction with fire fighting foam. The tendency in recent years is to use UL listed ,FM approved pre-assembled packages that integrate the deluge valve and trim with the releasing panel. These packages are factory assembled and tested before delivery to the site.
